In one of the cases in our litigation support practice, the opposing legal team repeatedly used an unusual tactic—intimidation by data. From the outset, they warned us repeatedly that the dataset was too vast, too complex, too unwieldy for anyone to possibly process. “You won’t be able to handle it,” they said, hoping to scare us away from demanding it. Their implication was clear: we would be wasting our time.
But we weren’t deterred. We knew that within those mountains of data lay the evidence needed to prove our case. So, we did what we do best—we dug in. The irony? Once their own experts finally got a hold of the same data, their team couldn’t make heads or tails of it. The intimidating, “too-big-to-analyze” dataset they had been using as a scare tactic turned out to be an overwhelming task for their side. Their bluff had backfired. They had underestimated what could be achieved when data meets determination—and ironically, their own expert was unequipped to process the very data they claimed was unmanageable.
What they saw as an impenetrable wall of information was, in our hands, a path to victory. The lesson? When the data is too big to handle, it’s not always the size that matters—it’s whether you have the right people to manage it.
