The most gratifying, “aha!” moments happen in office hours. The executives and technicians I’ve mentored for the better part of a decade invariably say the moment in which they understood exactly what they needed to do happened when they were with me in my office, charting actionable concepts on the whiteboard.

My door is open to executives and technicians who need help accelerating their work, through my Office Hours program.

I offer a choice of three relationships through Office Hours to create a range of development experiences, from on-demand mentoring to intensive coaching:

1. Private Roster

  • Six months of unlimited access to me
  • Contact me as often as you like
  • Individual and organizational memberships available

You get six months of unlimited access to me by e-mail, phone, or video call. My associates and I help you strategically (reconciling your vision with your strategic needs, how to establish and prove value, picking the right battles, etc.) and tactically (what to say at tomorrow’s meeting, whether your deck communicates effectively, how to close a prospect, how to get this particular use case running, etc.). We can also serve up to five people within your organization through the organizational membership, interacting in private sessions tailored to your team’s needs. If there are no openings, there is a “first come, first served” waitlist.

We will reach a mutual decision as to whether the private roster program is right for you. If it is, we will begin by studying your current situation, expectations, and goals. We will then establish mentoring goals. Some people call daily, some weekly, some monthly. The frequency and style are up to you. We return all phone calls and email within agreed-upon times. The fee is $1,500 per month. The fee is required to begin the process or to claim a place on the waiting list. The fee is non-refundable, without exception.

2. Structured Coaching

  • Six months of unlimited access to me
  • Detailed game plan with specific completion dates
  • Formal schedule of contact times to discuss accomplishments and obstacles

Some people require a structured relationship that provides additional accountability for meeting their goals, and these people may qualify for structured coaching. In this version of Office Hours we choose the areas of highest priority and create:

  1. A detailed game plan with specific completion dates, and;
  2. A formal cadence of contact in which we discuss accomplishments and any obstacles preventing short-term tasks from being completed. We will enforce completion dates and task accomplishment.

The areas we may deal with include developing charter, program or project proposals for senior executives; creating new products, creating new programs, shipping a proof-of-concept; authoring white papers; closing partnership leads, establishing market presence through an event strategy; proving organizational competency in a new mechanical technique, etc. We generally will choose one of these, and provide a formal schedule against which you will be tracked. The Structured Coaching option holds you accountable for specific completion activities on certain dates, and we follow-up with you to ensure you succeed.

Structured Coaching is recommended for those at any level of their career who feel the need for increased structure, whose intellectual curiosity, talent, or workload hinder task completion, and who require more urgency in creating results. This version of Office Hours is available for $3,000 per month.

3. Immersive Coaching

  • Six months of unlimited access to me
  • In-person one-on-ones with me on two separate occasions
  • Team members are welcome to attend

Sometimes you need in-person, boots on the ground to kickstart the process: we call this option Immersive Coaching. The option consists of two in-person meetings with me or one of my associates, at your place of work or my office, to orient you toward your strategy and goals. We create a schedule to move you forward. We recommend where possible that the days be split, with one about 90 days after the other.

Other members of your team are invited for as much of the discussion as you would like. We will take care of dinner and provide some “down time” for less formal conversation. You also enter the regular Private Roster for six months. The fee for the Immersive Coaching option, including the six-month mentor program, is $4,500 per month. (All meals are included while you are with our staff.)

All three options may be renewed in 6 month segments.

Testimonials

What stood out most to me during my working with Dr. Joe was his boundless patience, and generosity with his time and experience. In helping me develop skills in a brand new area for me (data analysis and statistics), I never felt condescended or talked down to. Dr. Joe cared far more that I took the time to really understand the material than he did about speed or immediate perfection. I had the space to learn in the ways that work best for me, while knowing that if I ever had questions or needed help, he’d be right there to jump in. I never in my life imagined I’d be a “data person,” but working with Dr. Joe made me feel curious, confident, and eager to learn more. Since our time together, I’ve taken college-level courses in quantitative research methods, collaborated with academic researchers as an analyst, and served as a subject matter expert on data collection and organization.
